Chennai, Sept. 29 -- union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today visited the families of victims of the stampede that occurred at a rally of actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the textile city of Karur killing 41 people.

Cradling the family members of 7-year-old Krithik Yadav, who died in the stampede on the night of September 27, the Finance Minister offered her condolences and consoled them, expressing deep sorrow.

"Crushed by the crowd, he fell and when we rescued him, he complained of difficulty in breathing. There are many hospitals in the area, and the police could have saved his life," a woman, sobbing uncontrollably inside that modest home, told the Minister.
