Pune, Dec. 5 -- Karuna Munde, Swarajya Shakti Sena leader, severely critisized the Maharashtra government on Friday over the proposed tree-cutting in the Tapovan area stating that the issue is not about religion but about protecting nature.

The trees are slated for cutting to construct Sadhugram, a temporary shelter for monks during the upcomimg Kumbh Mela.

Munde warned the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to avoid committing the "sin" of cutting trees. She alleged that despite strong objections from prominent saints, the administration is still considering cutting trees without any real need.
