Bhopal, July 13 -- Madhya Pradesh Police lobbed tear gas shells, fired water cannons and resorted to lathi charge to disperse hundreds of unruly Karni Sena activists who staged a protest on Sunday demanding the release of the organisation's Harda district president who was arrested a day back.

The police detained at least 50 activists who were staging the protest and dharna in Harda district.

According to the police, the protesters had gathered in large numbers, demanding the release of Karni Sena Harda district chief Sunil Rajput, along with other leaders including Ashish Rajput.
