Kalaburagi, Sept. 17 -- Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today said the state government will examine the proposal to waive loans taken by farmers from cooperative societies and banks, following the heavy crop losses suffered due to excess rainfall.

Speaking to the press after participating in the Kalyana Karnataka Utsava, the Chief Minister said several districts have faced heavy crop loss due to excess rainfall. Various organisations have requested loan waivers, and the government will study the proposal before taking a decision.

The Chief Minister added that after joint surveys in the affected districts, the government will submit a memorandum to the union government seeking compensation for crop losses.
