Bengaluru, Sept. 17 -- The Karnataka government today said it is exploring mandatory licensing for private YouTube channels and other digital news broadcasters to tackle the surge of blackmail, misinformation, and unethical journalism on social media.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the proposal arose from a memorandum submitted by the newly formed Electronic Media Journalists Association (EMJA), which sought regulation of YouTube channels engaging in "unethical practices" that undermine responsible journalism.
