Bengaluru, March 17 -- Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara has urged the Central Government to strengthen security along the Indo-Bangladesh border and streamline deportation procedures for illegal immigrants.

Responding to BJP MLC PH Purjar in the Karnataka Legislative Council on Monday, Parameshwara admitted that while official figures of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been submitted to the government, the actual numbers could be higher.

Purjar had claimed that over 15,000 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been residing in Vijayapura district for more than two decades.
