Bengaluru, Dec. 19 -- The Karnataka High Court on Friday rejected a petition filed by the mother of Kannada actress Harshavardhini Ranya Rao, challenging her detention under the COFEPOSA (Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act) in connection with a gold smuggling case.
The petition sought to declare the actress' detention as illegal and void ab initio. A division bench comprising Justice Anu Sivaraman and Justice Vijaykumar A Patil heard the matter. The court had reserved its judgment on December 1, following detailed arguments from both sides, and on Friday dismissed the plea, upholding the legality of the detention.
