Bengaluru, Aug. 20 -- The Karnataka High Court today asked the State Government why bike taxis are completely banned instead of being regulated, saying that every legitimate business is protected under the Constitution. A bench, led by Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru, observed that banning a service entirely, without rules, amounts to blocking a legal trade. "If you allow a service, you can regulate it. But can regulation mean a total ban?" the judges asked. The Court was hearing appeals filed by Ola, Uber and Rapido, which have challenged the State's move to stop their bike taxi operations.
