Dharwad, Oct. 28 -- The Dharwad Bench of Karnataka High Court today stayed a Home Department order issued on October 18 that prohibited gatherings of more than ten persons for peaceful civic, social or cultural activities in public places and treated such assemblies as unlawful.

Justice M Nagaprasanna passed the interim order while hearing a petition filed by Punashchetana Seva Samaste, which challenged the constitutional validity of the directive.

The government circular, which has drawn criticism from several organisations, is being widely viewed as an attempt to restrict RSS activities and morning shakhas in public parks and open spaces across the state.
