Bengaluru, Dec. 3 -- The Congress government in Karnataka on Wednesday transferred to the CID the investigation into the alleged custodial torture and death of a 31-year-old Dalit man at the Viveknagar police station, a case now reaching far beyond the narrow lanes where it began.

Home Minister G Parameshwara told reporters that "an inspector and two constables have been suspended in the case."Further action will be taken once the report is submitted, he added.

The complaint filed by Adilaxmi, the victim's mother, says her son Darshan alias Singamalai, from Sonnenahalli, was taken by the police on November 13. She says he was kept in illegal custody for three days and assaulted.
