Bengaluru, March 25 -- Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Tuesday granted assent to the Karnataka Agricultural Produce Marketing (Regulation and Development) (Amendment) Act, 2025, bringing e-commerce platforms under agricultural marketing regulations.
The law mandates platforms such as Amazon, BigBasket, D-Mart, and Udaan to comply with state agricultural laws. Violators face penalties, including imprisonment of up to six months, a fine of Rs 1 lakh, or both.
The bill defines e-commerce platforms as online mediums enabling licensed traders to sell market fee-paid agricultural produce to licensed retail traders in designated market areas. It also allows farmers to make electronic payments.
