Mumbai, July 31 -- Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said here today that if the water storage level of the Almatti Dam on the Krishna River is raised, it could adversely affect areas along the Krishna River in Maharashtra, including Sangli and Kolhapur districts.

Therefore, directions should be issued to the Karnataka government not to increase the dam's height, Fadnavis requested Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil today.

A detailed letter regarding this matter has been sent by the Chief Minister.

Fadnavis also conveyed the distress and concerns of local citizens regarding the potential flood situation arising from the backwater of the Almatti Dam, the accumulation of silt in the river, and the construction of barrages.
