Bengaluru, March 11 -- The Karnataka government has initiated a high-level inquiry into allegations that senior IPS officer Dr K Ramachandra Rao misused airport protocol privileges to facilitate gold smuggling activities involving his stepdaughter, actress Ranya Rao.
The investigation follows the arrest of Ranya by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Kempegowda International Airport on March 4. Ranya was allegedly found in possession of 14.8 kilograms of gold bars, valued at over Rs12 crore, concealed in a belt strapped to her body. Subsequent searches at her residence led to the seizure of additional gold jewelry worth Rs 2.06 crore and Rs 2.67 crore in cash.
