Bengaluru, March 4 -- Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President DK Shivakumar met AICC Chief Mallikarjun Kharge at his residence in Bengaluru, triggering fresh speculation over leadership change in the state.
The meeting, which lasted for only 20 minutes, comes in the wake of remarks by senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Veerappa Moily, who asserted that nothing could prevent Shivakumar from becoming the next chief minister. His statement has fueled discussions within the party ranks.
Further adding to the speculation, Congress MLA Basavaraju Shivaganga, a known Shivakumar loyalist, claimed that the Deputy CM would assume the top post by December and lead the party in the next Assembly election.
