Bengaluru, Oct. 2 -- Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar today moved to quash speculation of a split in the state Congress, announcing that disciplinary notices would be issued to MLAs M D Ranganath and L.R. Shivarame Gowda.

The notices concern the MLAs' recent remarks regarding the Chief Minister's post. The message from Shivakumar was clear: dissent on the leadership question will not be tolerated.

"There is no need to discuss sharing. The Chief Minister and I are working together. We are following the guidelines of the high command," Shivakumar told reporters. While projecting unity, he simultaneously signalled the party's disciplinary intent.
