Bengaluru, Sept. 20 -- The Karnataka government is considering a new bill aimed at providing comprehensive social security and welfare benefits to domestic workers across the state.

The proposed Domestic Workers (Social Security and Welfare) Bill seeks to ensure minimum wage protection, a contributory rights-based system, and access to various welfare programs.

The draft bill will require all domestic workers, including housemaids, cooks, drivers, and nannies, to be officially registered under the system. It also mandates employers, placement agencies, and digital service platforms to contribute up to five per cent of a worker's wages to a dedicated Social Security and Welfare Fund.
