Bengaluru, Oct. 5 -- Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today said he would recommend to the central government that the city's metro be named "Basava Metro."He added that if the project were entirely under the state government, he would have announced the name today itself.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 'Basava Culture Campaign-2025,' organised on the anniversary of declaring Vishwaguru Basavanna as the "Cultural Leader of Karnataka," Siddaramaiah highlighted Basavanna's enduring relevance. He said Basavanna's principles of coexistence, tolerance, and equality were eternal, not limited to the past or present.
