Bengaluru, Sept. 4 -- In a significant move, the Karnataka cabinet today decided to formally recommend to the State Election Commission that upcoming local body elections be held using ballot papers instead of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The decision, ministers said, comes in the wake of 'eroded credibility' of both the voters' list and EVMs.
Announcing the decision after the cabinet meeting, Karnataka Minister HK Patil explained that the state government has been receiving widespread complaints from political parties, civil society groups, and the general public over irregularities in the existing electoral rolls.
