Bengaluru/Kochi, Oct. 10 -- Interstate travel between Kerala and major South Indian cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad was severely affected after several Karnataka-based private luxury bus operators suspended services, citing safety concerns following alleged assaults on their drivers.

According to transport operators, drivers initiated a token strike demanding better protection after one of their colleagues was reportedly attacked by a group near the Kerala border.

"The protest was informed to us only late last night. We had to cancel several trips and block bookings for the day. Operations are likely to resume on Friday," Rijas AJ, operations manager of Sona Travels, told reporters today.
