Bengaluru, March 10 -- Karnataka Assembly on Monday approved an amendment to the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) Act to regulate e-commerce platforms, including Amazon, BigBasket, and D-Mart.

The amendment bill was passed in the Legislative Assembly with an aim to ensure the platforms comply with state agricultural marketing regulations, thereby safeguarding farmers' interests and maintaining market transparency.

In May 2020, the Karnataka Cabinet approved an ordinance to amend the APMC Act, allowing farmers to sell their produce outside APMC markets, including directly to private companies and e-commerce platforms. This amendment was intended to provide farmers with more freedom and potentially better pricing options.
