Bengaluru, March 19 -- Karnataka BJP leaders on Wednesday urged Governor Thawarchand Gehlot to halt the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Act, calling it unconstitutional and a violation of the 74th Constitutional Amendment.

A delegation led by Leader of Opposition R. Ashok, LoP in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, and state BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra submitted a memorandum highlighting concerns over the legislation, which proposes seven municipal corporations under a single governing body. The BJP contended that the Act disrupts the three-tier governance system and centralises power, weakening local self-governance.
