Bengaluru, Feb. 29 -- Karnataka Assembly again passed the controversial temple tax bill on Thursday after it was defeated by a voice vote in the legislative council last week. The Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill, 2024, will be sent to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot for his assent before becoming a law. The bill was defeated as the ruling party lacks numbers in the upper house of the state. Karnataka Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy said requested the Speaker, UT Khader, to once again pass the bill in the assembly, and it was passed by a voice vote.
