Bengaluru, May 2 -- In a major legal and political development, the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Secretariat on Saturday officially declared Dharwad MLA Vinay Kulkarni disqualified from the membership of the House following his conviction in a murder case, paving the way for a vacancy in the state legislature.

According to the formal notification issued by the Secretariat dated May 2, Kulkarni, of the Congress party, was convicted by the LXXXI Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge, Bengaluru City (CCH-82), in a murder case. The conviction was pronounced on April 15.
