Bengaluru, Dec. 23 -- The Karnataka government has asked Apple's contract manufacturer Foxconn to scale up employment to 50,000 workers by 2026 at its iPhone manufacturing facility in Devanahalli, building on what officials describe as the fastest industrial ramp-up seen in India so far.
State Minister for Electronics, IT and Biotechnology Priyank Kharge said the Foxconn unit has already created about 30,000 jobs within eight months of commencing operations, a pace unmatched by any large manufacturing facility in the country.
The state now expects the workforce to expand substantially over the next year as production volumes rise.
