Bengaluru, Aug. 18 -- Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly R Ashoka today demanded that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) be constituted immediately to probe the claims made by Mahesh Shetty Thimarody against state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Ashoka described these statements as serious and reckless, stressing that such allegations against a sitting Chief Minister require an official investigation to determine their veracity.

Thimarody, a former member of the Hindu Jagaran Vedike, has alleged that an influential family from Dharmasthala was behind the brutal rape and murder of Sowjanya, a Ujire College student, in 2012.
