Udupi, Aug. 19 -- The Udupi district police in Karnataka have registered two separate cases relating to online hate speech and provocative social media posts, officials said today.

In the first case, filed on August 16, Mahesh Shetty Thimarody was booked by Brahmavar police for allegedly posting defamatory remarks against BJP national general secretary (Organisation) B L Santosh on a Facebook page.

He is also accused of using abusive language against a Hindu religious leader, which, according to the complaint filed by Udupi Rural BJP Mandal president Rajeev Kulal, could incite hostility between communities.
