Kanpur, Feb. 8 -- The Crime Branch of the Kanpur Commissionerate Police has busted a major fake GST network that caused losses of several crores of rupees to the government exchequer by fraudulently availing Input Tax Credit (ITC), police said on Sunday.
According to police, the accused used forged documents to create shell companies and obtain GST registrations. These paper firms showed no real business activity but generated fake tax invoices and e-way bills without any actual supply of goods or services, thereby illegally claiming ITC.
