Kangra, March 15 -- In the hill state, as many as 578 people have lost their lives from Tuberculosis (TB) prematurely, of which 147 were from Kangra district.

Dr R K Sood, District TB Officer of Kangra while speaking to UNI here said although Tuberculosis is curable, still this disease continues to be leading cause of death even more than swine flu, jaundice, dengue and scrub typhus.

Tuberculosis (TB), a century-old-disease, is a bacterial infection which usually attack the lungs, also damage other parts of the body. TB spreads through the air when a person with TB of the lungs or throat coughs, sneezes, or talks.

Himachal Pradesh has 16,502 TB patients notified last year of which 3,472 were from Kangra.
