Belagavi, Dec. 11 -- Congress MLA Raju Kage on Thursday delivered an unusually sharp rebuke to his own party's government, alleging persistent neglect, bureaucratic apathy and discriminatory treatment of North Karnataka.

Under these circumstances, he declared that the region now had no option but to demand a separate state.

Raising the issue during the winter session of the Karnataka Legislature at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, Kage said the symbolism of holding the session in Belagavi had failed to translate into meaningful change on the ground.
