Kabul/Islamabad, Oct. 12 -- Tensions escalated sharply between Afghanistan and Pakistan, with both sides conducting cross-border retaliatory strikes at each other's positions. While the Afghan Taliban claimed it had killed 58 Pakistani soldiers, and captured 25 Pakistani border posts along the Durand Line in overnight strikes, Islamabad claimed it has killed 200 Taliban and allied terrorists along the Pak-Afghan border.
The cross-border strikes came as Afghan Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi is on his maiden visit to India and has met with Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other senior officials, with both sides affirming the cementing of close ties.
