Belagavi, Dec. 10 -- The political temperature in Karnataka soared on Wednesday after BJP state president Vijayendra Yediyurappa levelling one of his sharpest attacks yet on the Congress government, alleging that the "real masterminds" behind the alleged Dharmasthala conspiracy were not fringe activists but individuals "close to the Chief Minister" and operating from within the government machinery.

His remarks, made during an interaction with the media on the sidelines of the Belagavi Legislature Session, have triggered a fresh wave of political confrontation at a time when the SIT report on the case has just reached the state government.
