Chandigarh, Nov. 22 -- Justice Surya Kant, who hails from Haryana's Hisar district, will be sworn in as the 53rd Chief Justice of India (CJI) on November 24. He succeeds CJI DY Chandrachud's successor Justice BR Gavai, whose tenure ends on November 23.
Invitations for the swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan are now ready and have been formally issued to the family of the incoming Chief Justice as well as members of the Hisar Bar Association.
Justice Surya Kant's roots lie in Petwaad village of Hisar, where his elder brother Rishikant lives with the family. His other two brothers, Shivkant and Devkant, are based in Hisar and Delhi. All three have been invited to attend the ceremony.
