New Delhi, May 14 -- Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai on Wednesday took over as the 52nd Chief Justice of India.
President Droupadi Murmu administered him the oath of office and secrecy at a simple but impressive ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior Cabinet ministers were present at the oath ceremony.
Justice Gavai succeeds Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna who superannuated on Tuesday. He will serve as CJI for six months only and is going to complete his term by November 23.
Justice Gavai's wife, his mother and other family members were present on the occasion. After taking oath as Chief Justice, he touched his mother's feet.
