Jamshedpur, April 6 -- Health services at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College and Hospital in Jamshedpur were affected on Monday after junior doctors went on an indefinite strike demanding an increase in stipend.

Hospital sources said the strike disrupted routine functioning in several departments and affected patient care, particularly outpatient services.

The protesting doctors said they had been raising the stipend issue for a long time and had earlier staged symbolic protests, including wearing black badges, before resorting to the strike.

They said the decision to go on indefinite strike was taken after repeated representations failed to yield any response.
