Nagpur, Dec. 9 -- The Maharashtra government has announced that family members of people killed in tiger and leopard attacks will be provided government jobs as part of a new compensation initiative.

Forest Minister Ganesh Naik today said that the Forest Department has prepared a formal proposal, which will soon be placed before the state cabinet for approval.

Naik said the scheme will be implemented immediately after cabinet clearance. The decision follows a rise in fatal human-wildlife encounters across the state.

Official data shows that 48 people have died in leopard and tiger attacks in recent months.

Naik added that the government is treating the issue with seriousness and is working on both compensation and preventive measures. ...
