Colombo, March 1 -- Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) Destroyer 'Asahi' arrived at the port of Colombo on a replenishment visit on Saturday.

The visiting destroyer was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in compliance with naval traditions, the Sri Lankan Navy said in a statement here.

During the JMSDF ship's stay in Colombo, the crew members were expected to visit some tourist attractions in the city limits and it is scheduled to depart the Island on March 3.

JMSDF Asahi is a 151 metre-long destroyer, manned by a crew of 202 and commanded by Commander Shota Takashiro, the statement added. UNI GSM CS1915
