Agartala, Dec. 30 -- In a joint operation of Tripura Police, Assam Police, and Central Intelligence, on Tuesday arrested an overground operative of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen, an Islamist militant terrorist organisation operating in Bangladesh from Jaipur locality of the city.

The accused has been identified as Jagir Miah (33), a resident of A D Nagar police station. Police said that the investigation has revealed that Jagir Miah is an active member of the offshoot organisation "Imam Mahamude Kafila," which is an ideological extension of JMB.

He was found to be associated through a WhatsApp group named "Pub Akash", used for communication, radical propagation, and coordination with other members across Tripura and Assam.
