Srinagar, Aug. 27 -- As the Jammu region reeled under three days of torrential rains, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today said more than 5,000 people had been evacuated from low-lying flooded areas to safety.

The LG reviewed the situation with Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar and senior officials, directing immediate restoration of power, water supply, and communication in areas where floodwaters have begun to recede.

An official spokesman said the LG directed the officials for restoration of power, communication, water supply on priority in areas where flood water is receding.
