Srinagar, Aug. 22 -- The Jammu and Kashmir government today ordered the takeover of 215 schools allegedly affiliated with the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and its associate Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT), citing concerns flagged by intelligence agencies.
According to an order issued by Secretary School Education Department, Ram Niwas Sharma, the decision was taken after reports revealed that the managing committees of these schools had either expired or were adversely reported upon by security agencies.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had earlier, through notifications dated February 28, 2019, and February 27, 2024, declared Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir an unlawful association under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967.
