Ranchi, Nov. 1 -- A 26-year-old man from Jharkhand, identified as Vijay Kumar Mahato, lost his life after being caught in a crossfire between Saudi Arabian police and extortionists on October 16.

Vijay, a resident of Giridih district, had gone to Saudi Arabia around nine months ago to work on transmission line projects for a private company.

According to sources, Vijay was sent by his company to collect supplies when a gunfight broke out between Jeddah police and an extortion gang.

During the exchange, he was accidentally shot by police and succumbed to his injuries. Before his death, Vijay managed to send a WhatsApp message to his wife, Basanti Devi, informing her that he had been hit and was injured.
