Ranchi, March 30 -- The Jharkhand High Court on Monday took suo motu cognisance of the death of a 12-year-old girl in Hazaribag's Vishnugarh area, with police probing allegations of sexual assault and murder, even as the incident triggered a fresh political confrontation in the state.

A Division Bench of Justices Sujit Narayan Prasad and Anubha Rawat Choudhary registered the matter as a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and sought responses from the state's Home Secretary, the Director General of Police and the Superintendent of Police, Hazaribag.
