Ranchi, July 31 -- The Forest and Timber Sub-Committee of the Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce has demanded that sawmill licenses be renewed for five years instead of one.
In a meeting chaired by Chamber President Paresh Gattani, members said several states already allow 5-10 year renewals, while Jharkhand restricts it to a single year.
They also raised concerns over the Forest Department's refusal to transfer licenses after changes
in partnership, calling it a violation of business norms.
Sub-Committee Chairman Tejvinder Singh said partnership changes are common and legally valid, but current rules force mill closures.
