Ranchi, Oct. 9 -- Advocate Dheeraj Kumar has filed a petition in the Jharkhand High Court challenging the recent decision by the Bar Council of India (BCI) to raise the election nomination fee from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1.25 lakh.
He described the hike as excessive and argued that it would hinder the participation of ordinary advocates in elections, promoting a capital-driven culture within the legal profession.
Kumar stated, "The steep increase could act as a significant barrier for most advocates, depriving them of their political and professional rights."He emphasized that the decision goes against the interests of the legal fraternity and could adversely affect transparency and equality in the election process.
