Ghaziabad, Dec. 4 -- A 75-year-old jeweler, Girdhari Lal Verma, was killed in a daytime attack on Thursday in Govindpuri Market, Ghaziabad. The incident took place around 9:15 am, shortly after Verma arrived with his son to open their shop, Girdhari Lal & Sons Jewelers, a 50-year-old establishment well known in the area.
According to the police, the accused, Ankit Gupta (30), who lives in the same colony about 500 meters from the shop, approached Verma when he was lifting the shutter of his store. An altercation followed, after which Ankit brutally attacked Girdhari with a knife, injuring him critically.
When Verma's son Upendra Verma attempted to intervene, he was also hurt during the confrontation.
