Jaunpur, Dec. 18 -- In a major crackdown on the illegal trade of codeine-based cough syrup, Jaunpur police have issued lookout notices against three medical store operators. The accused, all reportedly owners of medical stores, have been absconding since their names surfaced during the investigation.
The action has caused panic among those involved in the illegal drug trade in the district. According to Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Ayush Srivastava, FIRs have so far been registered against 12 medical store operators in connection with the case.
