Srinagar, March 9 -- In a significant crackdown on illegal mining activities, J&K Police have seized ten vehicles engaged in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Police District of Handwara.

Acting on specific inputs, a police team along with the Geology and Mining Department seized 10 vehicles (tractors), involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, Police said on Sunday.

The vehicles have been challaned under the relevant sections of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMDR Act), and legal proceedings have been initiated against the vehicle owners and drivers.
