Jammu, Sept. 8 -- Sitting Member of Legislative Assembly from Doda constituency and J&K Aam Admi Party president, Mehraj Malik was detained under the Public Safety Act today in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials said that the detention of the MLA stemmed from his name being mentioned in multiple FIRs, as well as alleged derogatory remarks against the District Magistrate Doda.
Mehraj had defeated a close BJP rival by a margin of over 4,538 votes, securing the first AAP win in the union territory during the 2024 Assembly elections.
"Around 18 FIRs and multiple public complaints are lodged against Malik," said the police, adding that the detention was necessary to maintain public order.
