James Brolin reveals he was nearly cast as James Bond in Octopussy
Los Angeles, July 13 -- Veteran actor James Brolin, on the cusp of his 85th birthday, has recounted an extraordinary near-miss in his career, one that could have positioned him as the next James Bond.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Brolin, who turns 85 next week, looked back on the surprising moment in the early 1980s when he was tapped to take over the role of 007 for "Octopussy" (1983). At the time, Roger Moore had signalled he was stepping away from the franchise, leaving producers searching for a new face to embody the suave British spy.
"Roger Moore was out, so I flew over and I met all the people. And I got my apartment, and I started working with the stuntmen and Cubby Broccoli hired me," Brolin recalls.
