Dharamshala, Jan. 21 -- Himachal Pradesh Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the state government over the delay in Panchayat elections, alleging that the polls were being postponed under the pretext of the Disaster Management Act.
Talking to media persons at Kangra airport on his arrival for a three-day tour, Thakur said Panchayat elections are the most vital democratic process, giving villagers the right to elect their representatives. He alleged that the government was creating obstacles and weakening democracy by delaying elections, which, he said, should be held on time and in a fair manner.
