Shimla, April 13 -- Leader of Opposition and former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Monday visited the family of the 19-year-old girl murdered in Sarkaghat, expressing grief and assuring support in their quest for justice.

Describing the incident as "deeply disturbing," Thakur said the murder of a young girl on her way to college close to her home reflects a serious deterioration in the state's law and order situation.

He said the incident has shaken public confidence and created fear among families, particularly those with daughters pursuing education.

Thakur cancelled all his scheduled engagements to reach Nerchowk Medical College, where he met the bereaved family and offered condolences.
